INSPIRING SAYINGS

Dear Friends,

Sometimes we all have days when we can use a spiritual or secular "soundbite" from our many faith-based cultures.

1. From the teachings of Hannah Rochel Verbermacher, a 19th century holy woman known as the "Maiden of Ludmir," who was the first Orthodox woman to assume independent rabbinic responsibilities without the backing of a father, husband or other relative:

"A person whose holy thoughts accompany him on his life's journey is not alone and wretched, for the noble thoughts shelter him from loneliness."

From "The Maiden of Ludmir: A Jewish Holy Woman and Her World" by Nathaniel Deutsch

2. From the teachings of St. Teresa of Avila, a 16th century Roman Catholic saint, who was also the grandchild of a Jewish-Christian intermarriage:

"Once, when I was in prayer, I saw, for a very brief time and without any distinctness of form, but with perfect clarity, how all things are seen in God and how within Himself He contains them all."

From "The LIfe of Teresa of Jesus," translated by E. Allison Peers.

3. From the teachings of the 7th Rebbe of Lubavitch:

"24. Be There

In each journey of your life you must be where you are.

You may only be passing through on your way to somewhere else seemingly more important -- nevertheless, there is purpose in where you are right now."

(from "Bringing Heaven Down to Earth," compiled by R. Tzvi Freeman, page 36).
